Day 1 Part 2: The Weeding Diary

Vinod and I were incharged of the weeding of the unwanted plants and weeds at the back of the house. At first I was discourage and felt that it was quite impossible to finish the weeding process within the two days. We have to climb up a 5 feet wall and stand on a narrow space to do our work. We met Dexter at the place and he is kind enough to help us weeding the plants. Dexter is a Singaporean and he accompanied his uncle, who is a frequent visitor and volunteer at the centre while waiting for his national service. On the first day, we managed to weed more than half of the area.Weeding sounds like a simple job but it is physically demanding and we need to be really careful with the working environment to not harm ourselves.

Climbing up the ladder itself is already a challenge for me

Our day one progress

Some reflection here [the change in you, the change in the environment after the first day]

On 26 th of March 2016, we departed to IQ70 Plus Home. Our first action when we reach there was to interact with the children. We sang songs, danced and played some interactive games with them. Mun and I were in-charged of the cleaning of the unwanted plants and weeds at the back of the home, basically a gardening task. Our first glance on the condition of their backyard made us feel that it will be impossible to clean the mess. We had to climb a 5 feet wall and stand on a narrow space to do our work. Fortunately, we met a Singaporean, named Dexter who was willing to help us to weed the area.. Dexter accompanied his uncle, who is a frequent visitor and volunteer at the centre. On the first day, we managed to weed more than half of the area. Weeding sounds like a simple job but it was really hard and we need to be really careful with the working environment to ensure our safety. After having lunch together with the children and our organizing committee, we continued our task. When the environment was getting hotter, we stopped our work and returned to entertain the kids. At 5pm we put an end to our project’s first day.
